P is for Pictures Google

Insert a picture into a Google Document

Problems
Documents are more exciting with a picture.
Many documents need pictures or diagrams to enhance the information.
A logo at the top of documents is important.

1. Position cursor where you want the picture to appear within the document.

O is for Online Pictures

O is for Online pictures

Online pictures used to be ClipArt. The ClipArt was not business like. Very cheap and not well done. Microsoft has improved these and combined them with Online Pictures.

To insert a picture into a Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook.
Please note the Copyright notes at the bottom.

1. Click where you want the picture to appear within your document.

2. Click the INSERT tab.

3. Click Online Pictures in the Illustrations section of the INSERT tab.

Free Photos online & legal to use

Wikipedia has information, rules and explanation of obtaining photos and pictures from the web.
It also has a long list of websites with links where you can find a photo you are looking for.

Check out the following link.

Pictures: Stock Photos

Blog posts, newsletters and most documents need illustrations. They are used :
  • to catch our eye
  • to keep our interest
  • to illustrate quickly what we are talking about.
These graphics need to look good. Clip art was in the past the cheap way but they also looked cheap. They have improved but I tell my students when they need a great picture use vectors.

Vectors
A vector is a high quality picture that keeps its high quality as you make the picture bigger or smaller. One way to find vectors is to use Stock photos.*

I found The Ultimate Guide to FREE Stock Photos.

Problems with stock photos
The same stock photos are used by many companies. Have you seen the same photo used on multiple websites? These are probably stock photos. Try not to use the same ones.

Not all stock photos are free. Watch for the watermark logo. Many websites advertise on the top or side of these "free" stock photo websites.

*Go to my Google for vectors blog post for more information on vectors.

In Google type Free Vectors and the subject of the pic you want.

Why Use Vectors
Vectors are high quality graphics that look good when you enlarge the picture.

Downloading
When downloading pictures from the web there are two main items to remember

Don't steal.
If there is a watermark in the background of the picture it is copyrighted. You can NOT legally use it. When you have permission or have paid for the picture, then you will receive a version of the picture without the watermark.
It is really bad to see a watermark in someone's newsletter. They are showing the world that they have stolen the picture from someone.

There are lots of pictures out there. If you can't afford to pay for the graphics, find one that won't cost you money.

There are also websites that will give you credits for pictures you upload to their site to be used by others. The credits are then used to purchase someone else's pictures. This doesn't cost you money, just time.

How to Download
If there is not a download button.
Right click over the photo
Select "Save as..."
Identify where on your hard drive you want to save it.
Give it a name.
Click on Save.
