Insert the Degree Sign: using Symbol

I was teaching the staff of an engineering company last week. This was one of the questions that came up during class. They use the degree sign often and this has been a problem.

There are two ways to insert a degree sign.
Below is by inserting a symbol. Another method is to format a small letter "o" into Superscript.

1.      Position cursor where you want the degree sign to appear on your document.

2.      Click the INSERT tab on the ribbon.

3.      Click on Symbol icon, located on the far right-hand side of the tab.

The following window appears over your document.

4.       On the right is a scroll bar. Drag it down a few lines.

Between the lower case alphabet and before the accented letters in the degree sign. If you are not sure if you have the correct symbol, look in the bottom left-hand corner of the window. If you have the correct symbol it will say Degree Sign as shown below.

5.      Click on the Degree Sign.

6.      Click on Insert [the command button in the bottom right corner of this window]

7.      Click on the Close button [to the right of the Insert button].
The window disappears.
The degree sign has now been inserted where the cursor was located.
