File Name Rules

A student tried to be nice and funny by using a smiley emoticon,  :)   in her file name. It didn't work because of the following rules.

File names can contain:

•  Letters
•  Numbers [digits]
•  Underscore  [ _ ]
•  Hyphen  [ - ]
•  Space [ ]
•  Period  [ . ]

Other rules:

•  May contain spaces and dots but not just spaces and dots
•  Must begin with a letter or a number [digits]
•  Must contain at least one letter or number
•  Be descriptive of the contents
•  Don’t include the name of the program. The file extension does that.
•  Maximum of 256 characters
